Worldreader is a global nonprofit on a mission to eradicate illiteracy among the world’s poorest people using e-readers and feature phones.
Children start early using e-readers in primary schools where, if they fall behind, they almost never catch up. The results are staggering: in less than 5 months children show significant improvements in fluency and comprehension. Once children are active readers, together with their families they can continue to access books via worldreader mobile phone app available to 80% of the developing world via feature phones.
Et4d has partnered with worldreader and has given access to the 35 short stories in English, which follow a classic phonic curriculum. Our short stories have been downloaded over 80.000 times in the past 6 months, averaging 13.000/month, mainly in Ethiopia, Nigeria and India, where worldreader is very active.
Children who learn with the MoToLi app in the classroom could also be able to practice reading at home with a basic feature phone, giving them more opportunity to improve their reading skills.
